SPEAK UP

OPINION: Speak Up!

After the sudden departure of the last CYFD secretary, the governor installed an executive team of so-called child welfare experts to fix the problems at the beleaguered agency. And yet, the recent fiasco involving a child SENT TO MEXICO is another sign of the unrelenting dysfunction at CYFD. RF

I can't thank the people at the city enough for helping all of us SENIORS eat. Don't listen to three or four obnoxious people who don't understand that prices have to go up (thanks, Trump). I want to thank the city for not raising prices for 20 years. I understand. JH

As a former Republican and now independent: We were fortunate to have LUJAN-GRISHAM as governor. Don't care whatcha say, her energy, devotion and foresight will be missed. I only voted for her once, which I did after the worst willful ignorance reared its ugly head against her after Covid. RL

Pete Dinelli nails it. You cannot solve a problem like HOMELESS PEOPLE living on the streets by feeding it. You have to starve it through enforcing existing laws. Either people go into treatment and get back into society or they leave town. Not hard to visualize, just hard to implement. GH

The current president's many many stream-of-(un)consciousness speeches would please JAMES JOYCE. MB

Plenty of NM money available for $250 rebate and childcare. But try to a PCP doctor at Lovelace or Presbyterian. Let鈥檚 throw some money at DOCTORS to get more here. Everybody should have access to healthcare. NM needs doctors. GB

My 8-year-old niece and I went to the Albuquerque Natural History Museum yesterday. They needed a NM ID for the discounted resident price. Wow! But not needed to VOTE. Let that sink in. RS

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said that hundreds of CLEAN ENERGY GRANT cancellations were not based on 鈥渨aste鈥 or sound policy but vindictiveness. It is despicable that the administration is taking away funding from states that did not vote for Trump. WS

How often does the city inspect the city golf course RESTROOMS? My guess would be never. They seem to be health hazards. Come on Mr. Mayor, your family uses these facilities. EH

More and more people and institutions are beginning to understand that CLIMATE CHANGE is not a threat and we should not be spending money on it. Our electricity needs can be supplied by natural gas and coal. And soon by nuclear. Those can all be made safe. JRM

I can't believe that the Republican strategy for the November mid-term elections is to drag out the old communist scare. Surely that was done to death in the 1950s and ended with Nixon going to China. Democratic Socialism IS NOT COMMUNISM so surely voters won't fall for that boogyman again. Fingers crossed. CE

The agreement for ABQ HIGH LOFTS was made decades before the homeless problem was allowed to get so bad. Notice how all area businesses have installed high fences because of that problem. Allow the locked gates. CM

The current presidential administrations idea of opening CHACO CANYON to mineral extraction is absurd. What kind of president would even consider well pads, roads and drilling rigs on public lands adjacent to a UNESCO World Heritage Site? What's next? Drilling at Yellowstone? He should be fired. MCB

New Mexico Legislature: You want a salary? Not until you enact strict TERM LIMITS. DS

NM raises VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES while so many cars in NM drive without license plates and registration stickers. I've observed a Mustang at my gym without a plate or sticker for months now. Guessing he pays his gym fees as the rest of us do the heavy lifting paying the State. DD

As a Democrat in New Mexico I鈥檓 seriously concerned my vote during the primary for lieutenant governor in our state will be negated by PARTY ELITES. The process to select a replacement candidate must be public. Let鈥檚 see candidate Deb Haaland鈥檚 questionnaire. WR

All NM citizens should join Stephanie Garcia Richard and say "No Action Alternative" to Trump's reopening the lands surrounding CHACO CANYON, our UNESCO World Heritage Site, to any development. Protect Chaco. CA

The "protection" of Chaco Canyon that is under discussion is 3 YEARS OLD. How did we ever survive without it? ED
