UNM men's tennis wins Mountain West Tournament title
The UNM men鈥檚 tennis team on Friday won the 2025 Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS 鈥� The New Mexico men鈥檚 tennis team trounced Boise State on Friday to win the Mountain West Tournament title and with it claimed the league鈥檚 automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament next week.
The Lobos will learn their tournament fate during the NCAA selection show at 3 p.m. Monday on .
It鈥檚 the program鈥檚 fourth title in seven years after winning regular season titles in 2019, 2021 and 2023, and it is UNM鈥檚 first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2021. The Mountain West Tournament win was UNM鈥檚 fourth all-time, but its first since 2009.
The Lobos beat the Broncos 4-0 on Friday, exacting revenge for a 4-3 loss last week that denied them a share of the Mountain West regular season title.
The Lobos鈥� doubles teams put UNM in the driver鈥檚 seat. Top-ranked duo Aram Noroozian and Georgio Samaha defeated Jett Middleton and Carson Baker 7-6 (7-5). And at No. 3, Avery Tallakson and Aditya Balsekar recorded a 6-4 win over John Chin and James Van Herzeele.
The Lobos didn鈥檛 let off the gas in singles play.
UNM鈥檚 All-Mountain West star Noroozian crushed nationally-ranked Middleton 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Dario Ciotobaru avenged his loss a week ago to Lukas Velik with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Tallakson, who was named tournament MVP, clinched the victory with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Chin.
The title was UNM鈥檚 fifth this academic year, joining men鈥檚 basketball, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country and women鈥檚 indoor track and field. It鈥檚 the most of any Mountain West school this year.
