The University of New Mexico Hospital鈥檚 Community Engagement Department hosted its fifth annual emergency blanket distribution event on Tuesday.

The department purchased 8,000 emergency blankets that, in turn, were given to community organizations across Albuquerque that support people who are homeless.

In addition to distributing blankets, the hospital鈥檚 Behavioral Health Services department presented information to the community groups about the services it offers to homeless people. The New Mexico Harm Reduction Collaborative also handed out Narcan, which is a rescue medication used to reverse an opioid overdose.

鈥淲e have a heart to serve, and this (blanket distribution) is in alignment with our mission,鈥� said Sally Acosta, a community engagement liaison for UNMH. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to support our community.鈥�
