Gloria J. Browne-Marshall will discuss her book 鈥淎 Protest History of the 近距离内射合集 States鈥� at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Bookworks.
The book opens with Indigenous peoples鈥� resistance to European colonization in pre-colonial America, and continues through modern times to look at Muhammad Ali鈥檚 refusal to be inducted into the military for his opposition to the Vietnam War; David Buckel, an LGBTQ+ rights lawyer and environmental activist, who self-immolated to protest the use of fossil fuels; and climate change demonstrations.
The author draws on legal documents, archival material, government documents and secondary sources in an attempt to give voice to those who push back against mistreatment of others, themselves and planet Earth.
Browne-Marshall is a professor of constitutional law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York.

Three authors affiliated with the New Mexico Book Association will read from and discuss their books at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5.
The authors and their books are MT Angel鈥檚 鈥淎rcana: I Am the Grave鈥� book one, which is described as a dark fantasy novel that she wrote 鈥渁s a love letter to the weird kids who, in middle and high school, fell in love with the emo scene when it still wasn鈥檛 cool鈥�; Astrid Tuttle Winegar鈥檚 鈥淐ooking for Halflings & Monsters,鈥� volume three in a series; and Valentine McKay-Riddell鈥檚 鈥淪tarfriends,鈥� the second book in the 鈥淎lyssa Chronicles鈥� series that shows the author鈥檚 love of fantasy, her appreciation of young people and her reverence for nature.
