Goatheads invite goalie to compete for roster spot
Brian Wilson spent past three seasons with independent Huntsville Havoc
The New Mexico Goatheads have their first goaltender on their inaugural roster.
At least for now.
The ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche invited Brian Wilson to training camp on a professional tryout, the Goatheads announced Friday. Unlike a standard player contract, which guarantees a roster spot, a PTO only allows a player to compete for one.
New Mexico currently has 16 players signed to SPCs 鈥� nine forwards and seven defensemen.
21 players on their roster for the first 30 days of the regular season. That number drops to 20 after that with at least two needing to be goaltenders. The Goatheads open the season Oct. 16 at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
spent the majority of the past three seasons with the Huntsville Havoc of the independent SPHL. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, Wilson appeared in 45 games for the Havoc in 2025-26 and posted a 24-16-5 record with a 2.35 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and four shutouts.
Wilson does have previous ECHL experience. He played in nine games between the Cincinnati Cyclones, Newfoundland Growlers, Jacksonville Icemen, Bloomington Bison and Idaho Steelheads from 2022-25. He compiled a 3-3 record with 18 goals against in 184 save opportunities.
