Albuquerque firefighter saves pigeon at Tingley Beach

Published Modified

A pigeon鈥檚 leg was caught on a metal structure when an Albuquerque battalion chief came to the rescue on Sunday.

Just after 11 a.m., Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a call for an animal rescue at Tingley Beach, near Central.

When firefighters arrived, the pigeon was hanging about 30 feet above the ground, according to an AFR social media post.

As curious bystanders watched, the post states, Battalion Chief Peter Jarmosevich climbed up a ladder and freed the bird before placing it in a small kennel.

鈥... Although it鈥檚 (a) rare sight to see a chief climbing an aerial to make a save, he was the best suited for the grab due to his familiarity and experience handling our feather(ed) friends,鈥 according to AFR.

Jarmosevich鈥檚 crew named the pigeon 鈥淓dward鈥 before turning him over to ABQ BioPark Zoo staff who will evaluate him 鈥渢o ensure he鈥檚 ready to be set free,鈥 the post states.
