The makers and zebras of want to make sure that you read the directions before you start cooling off, cleaning off and hydrating with their high-tech assembled-in-America spray bottle.

The ingenious device combines a pump to build pressure with tubing to turn a classic Nalgene water bottle into a mist streamer and sprayer. It seems to use the technology of a high-tech squirt gun for good rather than mischief.

The instructions are easy to follow, and the hardest part is shortening the intake tube with scissors to 7.15 inches as part of the first-time setup of the thousand-milliliter bottle. Lunatec鈥檚 attention to detail is evident in the instructions and marketing material that say the device can be used in shower mode to clean gear, people and zebras.

Lunatec sent me a hydration spray bottle and wash rag to review. The sprayer has nozzles that turn it into either a shower, bidet or a flosser. I don鈥檛 think you would want to use the same device as a bidet and to floss your teeth, so I recommend buying two. The list price starts at $44.99 if you supply your own bottle and goes up to $63.99 for the largest combo at lunatecgear.com.

The attachments to convert between uses are removable and are in different colors 鈥� the black one is probably best to mark for black water use (i.e. cleaning your rear extremities.)

Lunatec is the same company that sent me its magical green mesh rags that we use on all trips to clean pots and pans.

Using the spray bottle kit was a two-person operation for cleaning up after a morning pulling weeds and cutting branches, with one person pushing the button and another enjoying the mist or spray.

The wash rag, made of the same green, porous weaved material as the dish-cleaning towel, seems to be more like a loofa 鈥� perfect for dirty feet or backs, but a bit rough for the face or delicate skin. The wash rag would be great after a long day on the trail or for Continental Divide Trail hikers, my adventure buddy says.

Lunatec products seem worthy of purchasing from the San Diego company. I believe the sprayer will replace our water dispenser pump that failed a real-world use when its battery was dead.

We needed it on a recent trip after dusty winds in Mesa Verde National Park. Rebeca needed a portable eyewash after a dust storm left her squinting in pain. Sometimes the power of the hand pump beats battery power.
