CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Ryan Martinez caught a great largemouth bass on a nekko rig senko worm at Conchas Lake on Sept. 6.

John Taylor caught a walleye using a Berkley flicker minnow sortly after a rainstorm at Conchas Lake.

Two-year-old Landon caught and released a smallmouth and many other fish all by himself at Conchas Lake on Sept. 6.

Ryan Martinez caught his best walleye on a bottom bouncer/crawler harness at Conchas Lake on Sept. 6.

Brandon Miera was told the flow at Coyote Creek was too low to catch fish, but he proved them wrong with a size-26 hook and a small salmon egg on Sept. 5.

Israel Quintana had a slow day fishing for trout using PowerBait at Eagle Nest Lake on Sept. 6.

Michael Santistevan caught a trout on a Kastmaster at Lake No. 9 at Latir Lakes on Aug. 29.

Robert Gutierrez caught a bass after the holiday crowds left at Ute Lake on watermelon and pumpkin wacky worms Sept. 7.

Prescilla Joseph celebrated her birthday fishing and had an amazing day with her family at Abiqui煤 Lake on Sept. 7.

Isaiah Vigil caught a 43-inch tiger muskie on an incredible trip to Bluewater Lake. Fishing buddies, Elijah and Gruncle also caught great muskies on Sept. 6.

Angie Taylor caught a 38-inch northern pike at Navajo Lake using Berkley flicker shad while trolling on Aug. 29.

Chad Lozano spent his day off fishing and caught a fine channel catfish with live bait in recent weeks at Young Pond.

Miles Johnson caught three bass along the shore at Grindstone Lake on Sept. 7.

A family day trip turned into a great day of fishing at Santa Rosa Lake on Sept. 8. David Montoya caught his best catfish using cutbait.

Northeast fishing report

Streamflow on the Cimarron River near Cimarron on Tuesday morning was 1.27 cubic feet per second (cfs).

Fishing for smallmouth bass at Conchas Lake was good using ned rigs and curly tail jigs. Fishing for largemouth bass was good using Nekko rigs and Senko worms. Fishing for walleye was very good using a bottom bouncer/crawler harness.

Fishing for trout at Coyote Creek was slow using salmon eggs.

Streamflow on the Pecos River near Pecos on Tuesday morning was 17.4 cfs. The most recent report was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for trout was very good using worms.

The most recent report for the Red River was received Aug. 27. At that time, fishing for trout was good using worms. Streamflow below the Red River Hatchery on Tuesday morning was 24.2 cfs.

The most recent report for Rio Grande was received Aug. 27. At that time, fishing was good for smallmouth bass using a worm lure at the Taos Junction Bridge. Streamflow below the Taos Junction Bridge on Tuesday morning was 137 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Hondo near Valdez on Tuesday morning was 6.73 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Mora near Terrero on Tuesday morning was 9.72 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Pueblo near Pe帽asco on Tuesday morning was 5.47 cfs.

Fishing for smallmouth bass at Ute Lake was good using watermelon and pumpkin wacky worms.

The department received no reports for the following waterbodies over the past three weeks: Cabresto Lake, Charette Lake, Clayton Lake, Cowles Ponds, Eagle Rock Lake, Fawn Lakes, Gallinas River, Harris Pond, Hopewell Lake, Lake Alice, Los Pinos River, Maxwell Lake 13, Morphy Lake, Red River City Ponds, Rio Costilla, Rito la Presa, Santa Cruz Reservoir, Shuree Ponds, Springer Lake, Storrie Lake and Stubblefield Lake.

Northwest fishing report

Fishing was very good for smallmouth bass at Abiqui煤 Lake using a worm on a jighead.Contact the Abiqui煤 Lake Main Office at 505-685-4371 for updated lake conditions and closure information.

The most recent report for Albuquerque Area Drains was received Aug. 27. At that time, fishing for catfish was fair to good using hot dogs.

Fishing for trout at Animas River was very good using gray/green rooster tail spinner with PowerBait. Streamflow below Aztec on Tuesday morning was 44.1 cfs.

Fishing for tiger muskie at Bluewater Lake was good using crankbaits, frog lures and X Raps.

The most recent report for Cochiti Lake was received Aug. 20. At that time, fishing for white bass and catfish was good using live bait and worms.

At the Jemez Waters, streamflow near the Village of Jemez Springs on Tuesday morning was 8.3 cfs. Fishing for trout on the Jemez River was good using PowerBait.

The most recent report for Liam Knight Pond was received Aug. 20. At that time, fishing was slow to fair for catfish and carp using hot dogs.

The most recent report for Rio Cebolla was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for rainbow trout on the Rio Cebolla was good using grasshopper flies.

The most recent report for Rio Chama was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for trout was good using hand-tied flies below El Vado Lake. Streamflow below El Vado Lake on Tuesday morning was 103 cfs; streamflow below Abiqui煤 Lake on Tuesday morning was 395 cfs. Please remember, from the river-crossing bridge on U.S. Highway 84 at Abiqui煤 upstream 7 miles to the base of Abiqui煤 Dam is special trout waters with a bag limit of only two trout.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande at Albuquerque on Tuesday morning was 0 cfs.

Streamflow on the San Juan River near Archuleta on Tuesday morning was 867 cfs. Fishing for brown and rainbow trout was good using size-22 red larva flies, midges and small dry flies in the quality waters.

The most recent report for the Seven Springs Kids Pond was received Aug. 20. At that time, fishing for trout was fair to good using Rainbow PowerBait.

The most recent report for Tingley Beach was received Aug. 20. At that time, fishing for bass was slow to fair using night poppers.

The most recent report for Trout Lakes was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for trout was very good using Salmon Peach PowerBait and Panther Martins.

The department received no reports for the following waterbodies over the past three weeks: Brazos River, Bluewater Lake, Canjilon Lakes, Lake Farmington, McGaffey Lake, Navajo Lake, Riverside Park Pond (Aztec Park #1), San Gregorio Lake and Tiger Park Reservoir.

Southwest fishing report

The most recent report for Bill Evans Lake was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for bluegill and carp was good using inline method feeders. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using chicken liver, bluegill and inline method feeders.

Fishing conditions at Bear Canyon Lake have been adversely affected in the aftermath of the Trout Fire.

With recent water releases from Elephant Butte and Caballo lakes, water levels are changing across Caballo Lake; boaters should exercise caution in low-water areas. For more information, visit the Caballo Lake State Park webpage or call 575-743-3942.

The most recent report for Elephant Butte Lake was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for largemouth bass was fair to good using spoons from the shore. Due to historically low water levels, vessel launching at the Marina del Sur boat ramp is hazardous because of sediment and debris on the ramp. Streamflow on the Gila River near Gila on Tuesday morning was 33.4 cfs.

Streamflow at the Gila Waters near Gila Hot Springs on Tuesday morning was 37.9 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande below Elephant Butte Lake was 0 cfs.

The most recent report for Young Pond was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for bass was fair to good using micro 1/16-ounce jigs with micro soft plastics. Fishing for bluegill and sunfish was fair to good using live red worms or wax worms on a slip float setup No. 8 hook. Fishing for catfish was good using worms.

The department received no reports for the following waterbodies over the past three weeks: Escondida Lake, Glenwood Pond, Lake Roberts, Percha Dam, Quemado Lake, Rancho Grande Ponds, Trees Lake, Snow Lake and Whitewater Creek.

Streamflow on the Black River at Malaga on Tuesday morning was 6.19 cfs.

The most recent report for Bonito Lake was received Sept. 3. At that time, fishing for trout was fair to very good using PowerBait, spoons, spinners and salmon eggs, and fair to good using rainbow Panther Martins and worms. Fishing for catfish at Bosque Redondo Lake was very good using hot dogs.

The most recent report for Carlsbad Municipal Lake was received Aug. 27. At that time, fishing for largemouth bass was good using a rattle trap.

Fishing for catfish at Grindstone Reservoir was good using grasshoppers. Grindstone Reservoir is currently open for fishing. Due to changing wildfire impact closures, please see the Grindstone Reservoir webpage before planning a visit.

Streamflow on the Pecos River below Sumner Lake on Tuesday morning was 90.7 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Ruidoso at Hollywood on Tuesday morning was 5.18 cfs. Fishing conditions will be adversely affected for an extended period of time due to recent flooding in the area.
