There was no hiding it. Nor did Kipp Keller try to. 

The New Mexico 近距离内射合集 defender embraced the questions he knew were coming. Just like his new look. After all, why not?

Gone was Keller鈥檚 usual straight blond hair. In its place? Some tightly-braided cornrows.

鈥淚 love it,鈥� Keller said with a grin Friday. 鈥�(The hair is) out of my face. It鈥檚 good for headers. It鈥檚 more aerodynamic, you know?鈥�

We鈥檒l take his word for it. He is, after all, the one with the experience.

Keller had opted for cornrows during and decided it was worth trying again. So, he did the sensible thing. He scheduled a hair appointment earlier in the week.

It took four hours, which proved to be difficult at times for someone who, by his own admission, lacks patience. Keller opted to whittle away the minutes watching a Connor McGregor documentary or listening to music.

鈥淚t is a little itchy,鈥� Keller said, feeling the braids. 鈥淎nd I wear a doo rag at night.鈥�

Someone, who remained unnamed, provided one. But hey, maintenance is key.

Still, it was worth it. Not only for Keller. His teammates and coaches, too. 

鈥淚鈥檓 supportive of it,鈥� laughed manager Dennis Sanchez, whose club hosts Orange County SC on Saturday. 鈥溾�� We take a very collective approach, but I think it鈥檚 very important to allow individuals to feel themselves within the group. Whatever makes him happy.鈥�

Well 鈥� most were supportive.

鈥淐an I say something?鈥� Keller asked while looking at fellow defender Chris Gloster.

Please do.

鈥淗e was one of three, actually, in the locker room that was like, 鈥楯eez, weird head shape,鈥欌�� Keller said. 鈥淚鈥檓 like, 鈥楢ll right. Super supportive.鈥� But then he came around.鈥�

Gloster, of course, had his defense ready. Sometimes the price of being a good friend means keeping things real in the moment.

鈥淚 also think, me as a teammate and as a friend, I wouldn鈥檛 want to just be a yes man of, 鈥榊es, it looks good. Yes, do this. Yes, do that,鈥欌�� Gloster said with a smirk. 鈥淵ou know, there has to be some honesty in a friendship. So I鈥檓 not just going to tell him it looks good (if) I truly don鈥檛 think so.

鈥�... I鈥檝e come around and it鈥檚 growing on me. It鈥檚 new, so it鈥檚 going to take a minute.鈥�

But disappointing? That never came up.

There鈥檚 just the matter of whether or not Keller will be keeping his new look long term.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a mix of people that love it and some people don鈥檛 like it,鈥� Keller said of cornrows. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know if I鈥檓 keeping it though. My parents just got into town. I don鈥檛 know if they support the look or not, but I guess we鈥檒l see later today. I鈥檓 getting lunch with them.鈥�

If the braids do stay, Keller has at least one important supporter in his corner.

鈥淪o far, I鈥檝e said yes,鈥� Sanchez said. 鈥淗e should keep it.鈥�
