Christopher Goblet wasn鈥檛 exactly sure how his proposal was going to be received.

In an industry that typically leans toward a more conservative approach and an older audience 鈥� Goblet admits that other wine festivals can be 鈥渒ind of stuffy鈥� 鈥� New Mexico Wine鈥檚 executive director was prepared to suggest something a little more radical. Goblet鈥檚 idea was to cater to a younger demographic with what would essentially be a 鈥渨ine rave.鈥� There would be wineries, samples and education as usual, of course. But there would also be DJs spinning tunes and dropping beats while festival goers danced and sipped the day away.

鈥淚 thought my board was going to tell me no. Quite honestly, when I brought the idea to the table, I鈥檝e been wanting to do this for three years and I thought they were just going to say, 鈥楴o, that鈥檚 too edgy. A wine rave? You can鈥檛 do a wine rave,鈥欌�� Goblet said.

鈥淎nd they were all extremely enthusiastic about it and said, 鈥榊es, let鈥檚 do this. Let鈥檚 do something different.鈥欌��

That, in a nutshell, is how Techno Vino was born. In reality, the Harvest Wine Festival has been evolving into the Harvest Wine and Music Festival for three years now. However, the 2026 version will be the biggest to date in terms of music variety. In addition to Techno Vino, this year鈥檚 festival will include an expanded silent disco experience and the Native Guitars Tour Stage, which showcases Indigenous musicians playing a variety of musical styles.

鈥淓very year, we鈥檙e bringing new aspects to it, trying to enhance the music aspect so it becomes a little bit more like a music festival,鈥� Goblet said. 鈥淲ith the wine, it changes the vibe from what we do on Memorial Day weekend.鈥�

Taking place over Labor Day Weekend at Ballon Fiesta Park, the Harvest Wine and Music Festival will feature 22 participating wineries, one more than the event鈥檚 previous high. Goblet points out that local wineries have also evolved to cater to a broader audience in recent years.

鈥淚 think that wineries are stepping up the wine offerings and putting a new spin on things. They鈥檙e trying out sangrias and slushies and wine cocktails. I think it鈥檚 just each individual winery is still doing its own experimentation,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e adding new varieties of wines, new blends. So I think that鈥檚 where the excitement comes from, the wine side is just how each of these individual wineries is trying new drink mixology and new wine blends and things that everyone鈥檚 experimenting with.鈥�

The expansion to the music portion of the festival was inspired in part by the positive reaction to the Silent Disco, which this year will include a larger tent with three different music channels. Perhaps most importantly, dancers for the first time will have access to the New Mexico Wine Studio booth on the dance floor.

鈥淲e鈥檝e never had a wine bar inside the Silent Disco. So (in the past) if people wanted to go get a drink, they would have to turn their headphones in because they can鈥檛 take them out of the Silent Disco,鈥� Goblet said. 鈥溾�� And the wine studio is kind of perfect because they offer a variety of wines from all over the state, sweet and dry. It gives people who are going to be in the Silent Disco a whole new set of wines that they can access that aren鈥檛 being poured at the other areas.鈥�

Over the course of the weekend at Balloon Fiesta Park, Goblet believes that the revamped festival will attract between 10,000 and 12,000 attendees. It鈥檚 a little less than the Memorial Day weekend version, but it鈥檚 also possible that the music lineup could boost those figures. That鈥檚 the hope, anyway. After soliciting input from the younger audience, Goblet has designs on making New Mexico something of a national pioneer on the wine festival scene.

鈥淚 hope we鈥檒l be trendsetters for this concept, and we鈥檒l see it grow and become something that stands apart from the rest of the wine events in the 近距离内射合集 States,鈥� he said.
