Movie Magn铆fico

The 14th edition of Cine Magn铆fico, a Spanish-language film festival, opens Friday, Sept. 4, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The event, which runs through Sunday, Sept. 13, is presented by the Instituto Cervantes de Albuquerque. The opening night screening will be 鈥淎mor en toda la cara (Face Love)鈥� at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A with Spanish-British filmmaker Gerald Fillmore. The event is free. Blues harmonicist Mark Hummel is celebrating the release of his new Allstars album 鈥淩oad Dog鈥� with two stops in New Mexico with Junior Watson and Anson Funderburgh. Hummel will play at Unit B by Chocolate Maven, 821 W. San Mateo Road in Santa Fe, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. Then Hummel will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Fusion | 708, 708 First St. NW. Tickets are $44-$66 for the Santa Fe performance, and $28 for the Albuquerque performance at ampconcerts.org.

What dreams may come

The Gallery ABQ is opening 鈥淩eturn to Dreamland鈥� from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, which features works by George H. Hayes III rooted in mythology, fantasy and steampunk. Hayes is joined by artist Leo Gonzales. The show runs through Sept. 26, and the gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. The Gallery ABQ is located at 8210 Menaul Blvd. NE. One enchanted evening

The New Mexico Philharmonic is bringing you 鈥淎n Evening with the NMPhil at the Botanic Garden鈥� at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. The program under the stars includes John Williams鈥� 鈥淪uperman March,鈥� Florence Price鈥檚 鈥淛uba Dance,鈥� Anton铆n Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 Symphony No. 8 and more, before concluding with John Philip Sousas鈥� 鈥淭he Stars and Stripes Forever.鈥� Tickets are $10-$25 at nmphil.org, with children 2 and under free. There is a free shuttle service from the ABQ BioPark Zoo parking lot, 903 Tenth St. SW, that starts at 5:30 p.m., with returning shuttles running until 9:30 p.m. The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW.

Dry darlings

The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is hosting a Cactus and Succulent Show in conjuction with the Cactus and Succulent Society of New Mexico from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6. There will be an exhibit of prize-winning plants and demonstrations on how to care for these plants. The botanic garden is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW. Admission is $1-$19.50 at artsandculture.cabq.gov, and free for children 2 and under.

Feel the burn

The 102nd Burning of Zozobra going up in flames at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. Gates open at 4 p.m. to claim your spot to watch Old Man Gloom get bested by fire at Fort Marcy Park, 490 Bishops Lodge Road, in Santa Fe. Tickets start at $15 at burnzozobra.com.

Got the laughs

Comedian Tommy Davidson is coming to Quezada鈥檚 Comedy Club & Cantina at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 5. Davidson is known for his work on the sketch comedy show 鈥淚n Living Color,鈥� along with being the voice of Oscar Proud on the hit show 鈥淭he Proud Family.鈥� Tickets are $37.12-$48.46 at quezadas.com.
