1.  Las Cruces at Hobbs, 7 p.m. Friday

District 1-4A began district play this week, everyone else in Classes 3A-6A start league play in Week 4. And here is your headliner, with the Bulldawgs visiting the Eagles. It鈥檚 only a district opener, but this matchup carries great weight as we think about the top of the District 2-6A standings.

2. Carlsbad at Centennial, Field of Dreams, 7 p.m. Friday

Here is the other top 6A matchup in Week 4. The Hawks started 0-2, then roughed up Artesia in Week 3 to get their season moving in the right direction. This will be the Cavemen鈥檚 first 6A opponent after playing Artesia, Goddard and Lovington.

3. Moriarty at Silver, 6 p.m. Friday

This is an absolute banger of a District 2-3A matchup, with the Pintos and their vaunted ground attack 鈥 which averaged nearly 300 yards in Weeks 1 and 2 鈥 visiting the Colts, whose defense has been stellar so far. These are two teams that could end up with first-round byes in the playoffs.

4. Albuquerque High at Sandia, Wilson Stadium, 7 p.m. Thursday

The Bulldogs are 2-0-1, but probably feel like they should be 3-0, and here they have a league opener against the Matadors, who themselves are off to a 3-0 start. If we get offensive fireworks here, which offense will make the most noise?

5. Dexter at Santa Rosa, 7 p.m. Friday

A super Class 2A pairing, although this is not a district game. This is one of those games that could and should impact seeding for the 2A postseason when the time comes. The Demons need to find a way to deal with Lions tailback Preston Muniz in this one.
