Saturday: West Mesa's huge second half propels them past Highland
The Mustangs scored 23 unanswered points after halftime, while Manzano earned its first win and St. Michael鈥檚 extended its streak to 36 games

WEST MESA 37, HIGHLAND 12: At Nusenda Community Stadium, the Mustangs (2-1) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Hornets (2-1) 23-0 after halftime.
West Mesa rushed for five touchdowns 鈥� two each from Noah Jackson and Isaiah Cazares, and a fifth from Chris Martinez 鈥� as the Mustangs took control.
It was Highland running the ball effectively in the first half, which ended 14-12 for West Mesa.
鈥淲e were having trouble getting them off the field,鈥� Mustangs coach Landrick Brody said. The West Mesa offense has had to change tone a bit since starting quarterback Jericho Brody broke his collarbone on the second drive of the game in Week 2, an eventual 41-39 victory over Valley. He鈥檚 going to miss a large chunk of the regular season.
MANZANO 54, DEL NORTE 14: At Milne Stadium, the Monarchs (1-2) gave new head coach Michael Holguin his first victory with the program as they rolled past the Knights (0-3) in a District 1-4A opener.
Junior Broden Price scored three touchdowns for Manzano 鈥� two on the ground 鈥� and also a 67-yard punt return for a score. He also recovered a fumble on defense.
Vinny Varela had a pair of TDs, one in the air and one rushing. Jared Carter registered a pick-6 for the Monarchs.
ST. MICHAEL鈥橲 42, ROBERTSON 0: In Santa Fe, Class 3A鈥檚 top-ranked Horsemen (3-0) won their 35th straight game, as they belted the fourth-ranked Cardinals (1-2) in a District 1-3A opener.
St. Mike鈥檚 scored 21 of its 35 first-half points in the final 4陆 minutes of the second quarter.
